liberty united X pamela love

From Interview magazine...
Liberty United would like to take a bullet for you. The organization, created by the multitasking socially-minded entrepreneur Peter Thum (founder of Ethos Water and Fonderie 47), aims to reduce gun violence across the country, refashioning illegal guns, bullets, and gun materials into American-made jewelry. Its first capsule collection debuted earlier this year with Philip Crangi of Giles & Brother.

Next up is New York-based designer Pamela Love. Taking inspiration from folkloric and artisan motifs, as well as the iconography of astrology, astronomy, alchemy, botany, and the American Southwest, Love first began making jewelry in her Brooklyn apartment in 2006. Now, the designer holds a studio in the Garment District and crafts pieces locally with sustainably sourced recycled metals and ethically obtained gemstones and semiprecious stones. A series of Love's signature pieces, including her Aeternum ring, cuff, and pendant, as well as her Inlay Cage and Talon cuff, will be produced in conjunction with Liberty United.

"I really want to help bring awareness to the issue of gun control," Love says of the collaboration. "The opportunity to work with them was very exciting." Realized in gun metal, brass, bullet casings, stainless steel, blackened steel, and 14-carat gold, each individual piece features the serial number of an illegal gun taken out of circulation. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds from each jewelry purchase will fund community programs with a mission to reduce gun violence.THE LIBERTY UNITED X PAMELA LOVE COLLECTION WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE THIS FALL ATWWW.PAMELALOVENYC.COM AND WWW.LIBERTYUNITED.COM
